Shared / Borrowed Neutrals

Hi, does anybody know (through experience) where borrowed neutrals are normally picked up?

1960's house, CU in garage, both lighting circuits only have reds at the CU, wiring routes from garage through wall to top of stairs (under floor).

Havent had a chance to lift the floor as yet, just wondered if they would be commonly in this area where all the cables combine or if it could be anywhere?

I'm also presuming it would probably use a neutral from the ring circuit?

Have never had to deal with shared neutrals as yet so any info from experiences would be great.

Was still using the my old bosses raw plug tool up until the point I left him 3 years ago. On a breeze wall it's quicker and less dust is made than a drill.

Forgot to add that I had to wash the 4 company (Holiday Hall) vans in the depth of winter with a bucket sponge and no hot water mind on a friday afternoon at the depot

Bought a Yankee Pump screwdriver with my overtime 1 week, was the dogs danglies with this and cost nearly 2 quid !!! Was showing the lads on the top floor of this 5 story office block that was being built when the sparks came up and asked what have I there,

Handed it over, he took 1 look and dropped it 5 flights down the rubbish shute. walking away muttering if you wanted to be a chippie son ............

Still have it at home, but never worked as he bent the spindle...............

My Yankee is next to my rawplug tool, bit and brace, my 20mm bush key and MICC T bar my late old Dad made for me (Jan wheres the Kleenex)

Whatever happened to the proper bush spanner. The onesthat had the 2 jaws with one of the jaws elongated that was 3/4" one end and 1". You could swing on those things to tighten a bush, these bush king spanner things are useless

You can still get the open mouth ones.

And it's red Rawls for me, those janky drivers are lethal if you slip trying to put to much effort behind them

You're probably guessing right Vessy. I expect the neutral has been picked up from the ring circuit. As you have probably realised it wouldn't be a good idea to follow Johnnyboy's advice of putting all the lights on one cicuit as this wouldn't give any discrimination in the event of a fault. Look out for cross linked strappers on upstairs/downstairs two-way switching. The used to run only 2 strappers, this means downstairs two-way light runs off upstrairs fuse and vice-versa.

Haha, rawlplug tool's, yankee drivers, brace or handrill. Only a week after i started as a lad my Boss gave me a Yankee driver to speed me up a bit fixing up ceiling roses. After many slips into the ceiling (and my left hand) i reverted back to a Pozi! Funny when i think back to how useless i was for those first few weeks!
