I want to put a 2 way consumer unit into my shed to feed 2 outdoor sockets and a couple of spot lights.

I have bought the CU with a 63 A main switch, 1 x 20 amp for sockets and 1 x 6 amp for lighting,
now my question is, can I take a supply from my kitchen socket (fed from a 16 amp mcb) through the wall to the shed in 2.5 mm or 4.mm cable into the 63 amp main switch?

If that's not sufficient then what size cable to go from my house CU to shed CU (under 20 meters away) and can i connect that to a 35 amp mcb or do i have to connect it to a 63 amp?

I don't want to do a FCU as I may add more lighting in the future and a CU looks neater.

Thanks, Ryan.

Hi,

There's loads of threads on here regarding shed supplies. If you have a search, I'm sure you're find some useful stuff.

If it's an area you're unsure of, you'd be best to call in a qualified electrician who can install a supply neatly and safely.

I know its a pain like haha, but I've been through and cannot find anything that relates with having a 63 amp main switch, I have completed my electrical 2330 course and passed I'm just unsure of this situation, I am confident I can complete the work so I'm not gonna hire another "me" I'm just after a little in-put.

I can go from the house CU with no problem, I just wanna know if there's anyway I can go from a Kitchen socket (16 amp mcb) to the shed CU (63 amp) or another socket from upstairs on a (32 amp) to (63 amp) main switch.

Ryan.

in a word. NO.. you can't feed a sub-main from an existing circuit. it mus come from the CU as a separate circuit.

With all due respect, I do think you need a hand from somebody more experienced. None of us were born as skilled electricians - we all learned from somebody else and there's no shame in that.

I'm sure you're building your experience and in a couple of years you may well look back at this thread and understand why I'm suggesting you get a hand with this.

That's what I was after! .. looking I could have simplified the original question so sorry for that but thanks for all the replies!

ImpededLoop I'll take a note of that, Thanks!

I suggest that you ask the mods for access to the trainee section and ask the question there.

I've ran my 6mm cable, positioned, fixed and terminated all cables into the shed CU.

now for the connections to the house CU, the sheds main switch is 63 amps so what do you think is better to supply with? a 40 amp mcb or a 63 amp mcb on the RCD side from the house CU

When you calculated the size of the cable you used what rating of OCPD did you use?

This is the problem Ryan. You are carrying this out yet guessing it as you go along. You need to select MCB to protect your cable.

nk there's any sums been done here mate?
I don't.
Why do sums when you can guess and get baled out on here. This thread needs to be closed right now.
Ryan if you've got 2330 then I'm Santa Claus.
