I ain't being funny mate but this is basic sh!t! How could you ever pass your 2330 level 2 and 3 without the ability to carry out cable calculations. Plus any half descent spark with enough experience would pace out how long the cable run is and work out required load and would know what size MCB/SWA to choose for a simple shed supply.

Well this is how I'm looking at it if I fit a 40 amp mcb, I will only ever be able to draw 40 amps through my 63 amp main switch, I'm never going to have everything on at once..

if I go with the 63 amp mcb I just sense over kill and wasted money, the cable is being clipped direct to brick above head level so its not like I'm gonna take my lawn mower to it and you would have to be atleast 6 ft to reach it :')

Would you like a ladder

Ryan.A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Do you know anymore experianced electricians who can help you with this project. If not id leave it if I was you till you get the experiance and knowledge to complete it safely.

and like the saying goes you dont ask you wont find out, I passed my 2330 in 2012.. I'm just unfortunate to not have had site experience.. does that mean im wrong for asking advice, I'll wing it and blow a **** load of people up? I'm confident in the work ive done it before with a 32 amp, I'm just curious as to the 63 amp.

yeah it is simple work, i know, but like i said no site experience in 3 years, tell me you would still be fresh for memory!

Do you even know the CCC of 6mm SWA with your chosen installation method?

Or in Ryan's case no knowlege at all.

Ryan, with 2330 (was it even still available in 2012?) you'd be rusty but you'd still know how to get the information you need to work this stuff out.
Anyway, I've PM'd a mod about this. If you're lucky it'll be shoved in DIY where it belongs. At best

Have they stopped teaching basic cable calculations as part of the 2330 now?

Look back in your college notes from when you were studying for the 2330 and you should find all of the information you need.

find it funny a simple question goes on to be a joke.. I CAN use either of those mcb's.. I know, i just asked what was best to use.

yet sarcasm seems to be the best you get.. I've got family & friends who are electricians, I'm not short of that, but y'know an electrical site for electrical related info, questions and general matter you get the complete opposite.. hahah its a community of jokes.

I was actually brought and shown this site by one of my tutors when in college for any info!

Before you even start this job. Have you any equipment to test the new installation. Have you done a pre testing & inspecting before you even start to install anything to ensure the existing installation is save to add to ?
