I am saying I was taught that only fine stranded/flexible cables are able to withstand the work hardening effects of the motors vibrations.

Ok that's different then and can understand where you and your 'teachers' are coming from.

All I will say on the matter is.........................if 'motor vibrations' are going to affect the connections in the motor terminal box then the install of the motor needs to be looked at asap...............any vibration affection the electrical connections will, undoubtedly, **** the bearings etc too lol.
There should be no vibration getting to the connections but can see the reasoning behind the thought:)

Also dave.....................running a flex to a motor from a 'transit box' with stranded cores is 100% ok .............don't think i'm saying its not.............but...........it depends on the situation mate.

Swa is there to be used when 'extra mechanical protection is needed' so running it and terminating it into the motor terminal box is normal...............I do offshore 'hazardous area' installs sometimes and it's all swa or braided connected direct to the motor or from a MCC or panel.

As long as the terminations are done correctly....................it doesn't need to be 'fine' stranded:)
I'm sure Eng will enlighten us on the max size Swa that should be used when terminating direct into motor?
I'm only a boy and 37kw motors is max size I use with no problems using armoured.............a mere child:)
