Hi people,
Have a shed to wire which is about 7m from house, this includes a couple of sockets and a light. The easiest way i can think of doing it would be to spur off from a socket which is adjacent to the shed(inside the house)to a fcu. then through the wall to a metal box, then 4mm swa to shed, then to metal clad socket, then spur off to light.(metal clad).
Does this sound ok or a bit cowboyish.
Dont really want to take it from the cu as it will be a pain.
Many thanks for any replies.

What load is on your socket circuit and what csa is it? Also what load is going to be in the garage? If using 4mm swa, what rating is the socket circuit mcb?

It would be better to take a dedicated circuit from the cu, but in principle what you're suggesting is acceptable.
When you say "the sockets are all rcd protected" do you mean via rcd fcu where the cct spurs off?

Hi again.
Load is around 5 amp not sure of csa
Load i have been told is only going to be a fridge freezer plus light.
Socket circuit mcb is 30 amp.
Thanks.

As above take it from its own circuit from the cu. This is not a job for a diyer. It needs testing, certs and notifiable to lbc. Post up your area and there will be someone close to give you a quote.

Paul I think you are being a bit hard on the fella here. You do not know that he is a DIYER he has only asked for a few views on what he is proposing. Of coarse it would be best to take a dedicated circuit from the cu to the shed but what he has suggest is still ok. He has stated that he will use 4mm and that the socket he is going to spur from is RCD protected. He is a new member and harsh replies might put him off coming back.

Given that, it probably makes sense to TT the shed, unless you can be sure it doesn't act as an extraneous-conductive-part. (The SWA won't have...
