Hi. I’m about to hire a home improvements man to install 3 light switches and 3 power sockets. He wants to use backboxes for everything. He has great reviews and he was polite and professional when he was here. But I wonder if backboxes are standard.

I live near Blackpool, England. It’s a very old house. The rent is cheap and it’s not worth spending much money here. All the power sockets are against an outside brick wall. The 3 light switches are against plasterboard.

Is this the same issue as this thread?

Same advice... If you don't mind the aesthetics of surface trunking and boxes, then fine.... but i question now whether you can have work done in a rented property when its the landlords responsibility to have a safe installation.

This, along with subsequent replies to one of your other threads, is worth reading.
