so i hear the 1st ammendment is coming out in june or thereabouts and there is going to be a new (green) book.

so should i sell my red book now whilst it's still worth something? i see they are still fetching ÂŁ35 on ebay...

The digital downloads are good value if thats your bag.... ÂŁ140 for IET members for brb (including june update) GN 1-3, OSG, Electricians guide to building regs.
ÂŁ280 for above but GN,2 1-8 and also Electrical Installation Design Guide Calculations for Electricians and Designers. If like me you fill in your certs on-site using a laptop the digital version of the brb is fantastic and the search function is pretty reliable.

Hold on a min 3000gt ant, you have lost me, you started a fred about you wanting to wire SWA in to a standard plug top in your kitchen and out to your garden, for some decking lights and put another standard socket out let non ip rated for the conditions in your garden, and now you are trying to give advice about updates, if you know about regs why are you asking such things on other freds chap.

Well almost, i was going to put a non ip rated socket, in a IP rated box and this i see nothing wrong with. And yes the SWA was a daft idea and as such i was put straight by you guys! so thanks. I do know some standards but not all, so thats why i come on here. I am only trying to help out with things i do know about and i would not give advice if i thought it was rubbish. You guys on here know alot more than i do in certain areas and i know maybe a little bit more about other areas?? anyway yes thats the method we use.

cheers
Ant

Totally agree with Brucelee, why should we pay to buy an "amended" version when the differences are probably naff-all anyway and probably little less than changes in chapters headings etc. And why can't they make a free (or at least low cost) PDF version like the guidance of electricity at work?

At some point you would have to have the latest version as the current one will be withdrawn. Until then you will be allowed to use the standard you have. For BS standards you normally have x amount of time before you must be working to the current standard. I agree its a bit of a rip-off but some of these standards in use today are getting quite old. And as someone has said we need to line the pockets of these so called Technical experts, who probably spend alot of time chatting than actually thinking.

All they ever do is amend the f***ing books and we have to pay for it. You find out that what you have done is incorect and you have put people in danger. Who then pays for it to be corrected the customer sure aint going to nor the IEE.
i know its way out, and your knowledge should tell you better, but you never know.
Bruce is correct big time.

No probs 3000gt, i hope we can all help in future.
Sorry chap i could have been more helpfull, its just you get to many people asking questions on how to do things and have no electrical background, and instead of paying for a sparks to get the job done right and with the min amount of distubance for the customer, they want to do it them selfs and and risk killing them self. or the person they are doing the job for on the side, we have to pay a lot of money out each year or the comp we work for and strugle for work, or the customer says how much, i just pay Jo or Bob to do it down the road.
