(shower capable of 37A, cable capable of 27A)

customer doesn't want to upgrade cable so I suggested for safety to replace mcb with 20A (to protect cable)
apart from possible nuisance tripping are there any other issues with doing this

it would not be nuisance tripping. it would be the MCB performing it's duty. all you can do is advise customer to uprate the cable or don't use the shower. if he won't pay for the cable uprating, then walk away.

Tel's advice is spot on. Impress upon the customer the risk of fire and either install the new circuit or leave him be. If he wants to leave it, post him the risks in writing.

Nuisance tripping is occasional unpredictable tripping.

This shower will have more than occasional tripping with a 20amp Mcb.

Stick a high power 2.3 Ohm resistor in series with the element inside the shower unit.
They'll never notice!

a quick glance at a funny diagram in app.3 brb tells me he'll have just under 5 minutes in the shower before it trips.

so, give it the appropriate code. advise customer to upgrade or he ain't getting a satisfactiory report.don't try and bodge it for the sake of his wallet. get him to cut back on the flash car, expensive females, and his |G&Ts. end of.
