8.5kw shower, 2.5 T & E cable ,32A mcb
(shower capable of 37A, cable capable of 27A)

customer doesn't want to upgrade cable so I suggested for safety to replace mcb with 20A (to protect cable)
apart from possible nuisance tripping are there any other issues with doing this

so, give it the appropriate code. advise customer to upgrade or he ain't getting a satisfactiory report.don't try and bodge it for the sake of his wallet. get him to cut back on the flash car, expensive females, and his |G&Ts. end of.

Or you could, if you wish call him a ill informed Muppet, only trouble is you probably wouldn't get any work off him

As I am not far away from you Scott, if that was my customer I would be insisting that they change the cable and make the dangers of not doing so VERY clear. Changing the MCB would not be my recommended course of action as this does not solve the problem.

If they refused then walk away

BTW what job did you go there to do?

He was there doing an EICR so its a C2 in my book, submit invoice and report and walk away.

How old is the install? What colour are the cores?

Be careful if you are going to go around 'insisting' that customers have work done, that is the territory of cowboys and con-artists!
We can do no more than advise and explain

What would you suggest in this case Dave? I agree we can't demand the customer must have this that or the other, but I for one wouldn't do a job that was unsafe like the one the OP has been asked to do.

In this case I would suggest recording it as a C2 with a description of the problem and explain it to the client along with all of the other observations after completing the report, what would you do?

I don't understand what you mean about not doing the job the OP has been asked to do? If you don't carry out EICRs on installations containing unsafe conditions then that kind of makes doing EICRs pointless doesn't it?

whatever you do, don't alter the OCPD. he'll get tripping issues and then it will be " it was fine till you messed with it". advise a cable upgrade and it he don't want to pay, then just issue the EICR
