Hi, i have been asked to install an electric shower into a hairdressers for washing hair over a basin. When i enquired with Elecsa how far sockets have to be from the shower, they told me the 3m rule still applies? Is this correct, i feel this is totally a different situation to a room containing a bath or a shower & where would i take the 3m from. Any advice or idea's. I have thought about a partition.

There's hundreds of cases where water outlets are within 3m of a socket - most commercial kitchens will have flexible spray hose style sinks and sockets in close proximity, outside taps in gardens next to sockets, etc etc etc.

RCD the sockets as a matter of course, install the shower as sensibly as possible, write comments in the EIC, send bill, get paid, drink beer.

and don't offer the job up for your next NICEIC inspection!

Hi, To conclude this thread, the guy from the tech helpline e-mailed me the following yesterday as he said he would get more advice for me after i challanged his opinion.
A hairdressers salon is not deemed as a special location and therefore a socket can be in close location to the proposed shower head as it is not likely to introduce a hazard where people may be at their most vunerable whereas a bathroom location would,

Thanks for you help.
