I have noticed recently a few post "can I ask a silly question".

There is no such thing as a silly question. If you want to ask a question ask it. You may think it is silly, but how many people look on here and think I wish somebody would ask......this or that.

We are not all professors on here, and even the more experienced of us don't and never will know it all, and we ask some basic questions from time to time because we don't all have the same specialities. Good examples are the lads doing commercial day in day out, will come on and ask what to me is a basic question about domestic. its not because they are stupid, its just not their normal comfort zone, and vice versa if i get a commercial job.

There is only one way to gain knowledge, and that is to ask. So don't be shy.:)

Cheers.........Howard

In a similar spirit two that've always annoyed me...

Why is it called a "Building"

The process of referred to as the "build" is "building" it - so surely when it's finished it should be called a "built", not a building... (there's a few others - painting being a notable one - but it's only building that I always think of ;)

and what exactly is a "Near Miss" ? It's a near hit! A collision is a near miss (i.e. they nearly missed!)

By the same virtue:

Two parallel vertical lines are either parallel or vertical, they can’t be both.

If 2 lines equidistant apart their entire length are normal to a surface defined as 'horizontal' then surely by definition they are both parallel & vertical?

What is a straight line? Considering 'space' is warped by mass ie gravity, agghhh I'm getting lost now, going to have to dig out my Einstein books.

Why do my trousers shrink every time i have a takeaway?

And why does my youngest child bear a remarkable similarity to our postman?

it's the heat from the fryers.

because the postman always comes late.
