Simple plug wiring question, help needed

Hi, very simple question for anyone willing to help...

I have a LED TV which uses 53W according to instructions. It was bought from new with a figure 8 (C7?) plug that has a 10A fuse in it. I have recently hung the TV on the wall and put the cables in conduit, but the power cable is now not long enough. I can buy a new one but they all come with 3A fuses. Couple of questions:

As the TV is only 53W, why does it need a 10A fuse?
Will there be any problem using a 3A fuse, or should I swap the 3A fuse with the 10A one from original plug - would swapping the fuses be a problem at all? I assume the cable is the same, and only the fuse varies, but wanted to check before I damage anything.

Thanks in advance of any replies.

I think you will find that the standard length is 2M and you will not be able to buy a longer one. If you don't wish to make a joint. You may be able to get a socket end from RS, Farnell or CPC and make your own. Is it possible to fit a socket or spur behind the television and connect your lead into it.
