Sloooow start to the year...

Not just you buddy.
I have put work off until the end of Jan to catch up with book work.
Now I've done that, and done the work I put off, it's quite slow....work will come this I'm sure of.

That's why I'm on this forum, not much else to do atm

same here. all i,ve done this year so far is a couple of call-outs and one CU.

The amount of people who appear to be joining a part p scheme is a clue to why its slow, and given the amount of inexperience posters who are coming on here for advice they appear to be getting plenty work between them. I'm not at all surprised its slow for you qualified and experienced folk, including me.

Ive been a subby all my life to other companies and Ive just run some ads in my local papers to try and pick up some bits. I'm also going to start other little adverts etc.

There's a bottle neck of Electricians looking for work, I don't think it will improve that much give at all the economic indicators and surplus of labour, hope I ain't ruined anyone's day.

Its an ad in the free local paper thats kept me ticking over. Placed it at the end of December and its got me the work, never thought it would TBH.

Its not just any tom dick or harry joining the part p schemes though. Round here there are 4 or 5 electrical contractors doing only commercial and industrial. All of a sudden, they've all got the part p sign on ther vans, probably because the large local companies have either gone bust or have cut back the amount being spent

Wheres about are you based ? NICEIC Approved Contractors get part p status automatically so that might be why they put the stickers on. Another problem is all the general maintenance companies, they all have NICEIC stickers as well.

In the end some people will break and will have no choice but to find a permanent job and that might free up some bits for those who can hold out. Some people advertise to try and get privates for weekends and evenings for cash, but for a call-out the customer needs a quick service.

well thats it! I have a rewire to finish off next week then a small commercial job to rewire which will take about a month but im contemplating on whether i'll be better off getting a job or trying to hold out but with bills and a newborn baby the decision is not easy...

Ah I see. It just seems then that they must have decided to promote it then and get into doing the domestic market to.

Think some of them are ECA memebers, then the Elecsa logo appeared.

if you've got a whole month's work booked in, then you are better off than some . my work diary is as blank as the day i bought it.

p.s. anyone got any subbing work, cheshire/south manchester?

It is very very slow, just starting to pick up jobs now....But everyone is pushing on price, to the point where I had to turn a job done, the quote he had wouldn't of even cover the materials! Plus add to the fact that a well known contractor that works for a very big diy shop that has an orange logo just fitted him a new kitchen complete with ring main, and get this....No main bonding to water, and a socket outlet 80mm from the hob!........Nice work boys!
