Sloooow start to the year...

yep......all there on a very nice nahhhhh pits cert....Looks all lovely and new....Proper job.
Socket freshly chased in the wall, there was no existing socket there either, first thing I asked.....According to the home owner he was informed as long as they are 'about' 100mm away they are fine. The worst bit is these boys are winning the work, they fitted his kitchen did all under one cloak, got the spark in etc....He has an old board, but instead of advising a test and board upgrade etc, just popped in an rcd unit and plumbed in the new sockets.........Took the dosh, and offski...Thanks for coming!

That sounds familiar.........Could well be, How on earth do you do an install, in a kitchen of all places, have no Main bonding in place and issue certs....I am far from perfect but come on' that is terrible. The DIY store with the big orange letters should also be held to account, it isn't the first job I've seen either by the same contractor that works for them, the last one I saw also a kitchen, no supplemetary fitted, an unused wall light removed, cable taped up, and I mean just taped up, and covered with a wall unit! To top that they sited the cooker iolator in the center of the hob four feet up the wall! Oh yeah and put a socket either side of the hob again about a couple of inches away from the hob itself....How do they keep getting away with it?

I know, that's why I don't bother, sod all will be done.....They also told the guy they would uprate his shower cable, surface mount it for him in to the top of the shower housingm no cut out in the unit, so they'll easily solve that and make a hole for the cable....At that point I smiled and said "To be honest I don't want the job, if you want to save a few quid, and have a live 10mm cable running down your bathroom wall above the bath in to an old shower unit that has seen better days, with an installation with no main or supplementary bonding, and no rcd protection then your braver than me" I meant stupid not brave, but had to show him a little respect!

Very slow....but less slow than the end of last year, got a small rewire to start tomorrow...(the result of a cu change which uncovered a right mess), two weeks tops....and the usual call outs still coming in. In some ways it's nice to know your not the only one quiet..but in another way it's deeply worrying.

I must be bucking the trend, the work is coming in like a tidal wave, and no sign of it easing off either. The quiet spell will come, it always does.

Cheers........Howard
