Going to re-wire a small flat,

at the moment they have 24 of these 12v small downlights, on 8 transformers stuffed in trunking. What would be a better way of doing it is there a transformer that will do like 12 of them? Also does it have to have smoke detectors?(Reason being another big firm who priced for the job didnt price forthem) [ElectriciansForums.net] Small Flat re-wire

Also found this on another job it looks likes its been poorly made of or altered?? (also not fixed to the wall lol)

Simply use GU10s instead.
Without checking any regs it will almost certainly need smoke detectors if it's a flat in a block, possibly even wired into the system for the main block, depending on the layout.

Yes that's a resourceful way of earthing an MI sheath...

well what you have there in the pic is a pyro ....glanded (without a banjo i might add)....seem to have just used a BS951 bonding clamp to earth the sheath of the pyro...which acts as the cables CPC....and you say it isn`t clipped or secured...thats a (2) for a start....as for the trannys....whats the rating of them?....can they cope with running 4 lamps each?....or are they cutting out....due to thermal overload?....

I was taught that smokes are required on a rewire.

i believe it's the case that smokes are required by building regs during "material alteration" and many argue that a rewire is indeed material alteration.

Frankly, I think any owner who does not take the opportunity to have smokes installed on a rewire when the extra cost is small is stupid. Smoke alarms save lives. Simples.
