Small scale standalone pv system for shed (not fed to grid etc)

Could anyone offer some practical advice (and ballpark costs) for installing a pv system on a shed roof. Not worried about feeding into grid/FITs etc, the panels on the shed roof would simply need to power a 600W/240V load within the shed itself (presumably via some kind of battery charge system).

Typically the load would only be used during the daytime (i.e. when sunny!) but might be useful to have a few hours available (or however a reasonably sized battery would last) when dark also.
