Doing a install for lighting specialist company, which involves Cat 7 cabling, quite a few to various points.
The engineer wants it put in the floor, before the actual floor goes down.
Seems a good idea but he’s on about 25mm plastic conduit,I’ve been looking at the plans,& I really dont think it’s a good idea.
There’s a lot of cabling,at least 4 Cat 7 to tv area plus co ax for TVs.
I’m more inclined to put 2x2 plastic trunking in,there will be no chance if renewing these cables,or putting loop or through boxes in,& no acess to it once the floor is down.
It’s the best route but not ideal, any thoughts on containment for this.

Thank you, will suggest the use of dedicated floor trunking, wish people who want these things to happen,in limited access to cabling routes, would tell us the sub contractor, consultant & architect this,& all could then be decided.
I find it’s always the electrician on site making decisions, which should be put on others’ shoulders.

What I’m trying to get at is the architects are specifying round pin sockets on ring or radial circuits solely for lighting use when in reality a very small percentage of people would use them. Why not just install standard socket outlets rather than restricting their use?

I couldn’t comment on the specific application, but usually it would be to either allow control of the table lamps by normal lighting controls such as dimmers or if it’s in public areas to prevent people unplugging the lights to use the sockets for charging phones etc.

Why would you need cables rated for 90degrees?

If install is in floor suggest using dedicated underfloor metal trunking or tray with cover installed below UFH. make sure all cables are rated for 90deg maintain bending radius and segregation and test all cables before the floor screed is installed and all should go well.

Maybe it's for the UFH.

These are domestic circuits spurred off either the ring or radial so no lighting controls involved.

I was not involved in the design or installation, just happened to on site at the right time and questioned the builder.

Take note on the key word there, builder...

In that case I suspect the architects intention was for them to be lamp sockets switched by a lightswitch or dimmer, and the builder didn’t understand.
