Hi Guys,

I have been asked to complete a job started by another spark who, at the time was not working, but now employed again, and not intrested in finishing this one off.
The customer wanted three smokes , landing, hall, and kitchen.
what i am left with is a 1mm t+e tail from the nearest ceiling rose on all three positions, all a meter of cable.
I always interconnect between alarms, however there are no provisions made for this.
My first thought was " radio base" as all decorations done to a good standard, however the customer is not keen after finding out how much three of them will cost.
My question is, although not best practice, could each alarm be fed individuly from the existing tails, as if battery only, ??

Thanks jem

he's done it wrong. no wonder he don't want to finish the job. should be interlinked with 3 core & e. you could just connect each with existing T/E, but then 1 detector activating will not sound the other 2.

Yes i always interlink, but the customer will not pay for radiolink, should i just advise battery smokes, i know hes done it wrong , im just trying to make the best out of a bad job ?

best you could do is have 3 independent mains smokes unless you can hard wire interlinks

Yes, Lenny, this is true, but you know how it is, no chance of interconnecting as decor has just been finished, my main concern is where would i stand if there was injury due to fire and they were mains but not interconnected

Follow the regs mate - must be interlinked. If they don't like the radio option, their fine decoration will have to be destroyed and they will foot the bill for that.

This is my prob sparks, customer wont pay out for radio base nor for re decorating for an inter connecting cable, wants to have three individ as if battery units, where you would stand on this if there were to be a fire, as a cert would need to be issued is my concern ?

There is one other other solution that maybe nobody else maybe aware of, You could use wireless linkable smokes and heats that are completely battery powered. Down side is batteries still should be replaced every year.

I've seen these batty powered radio link one was going to use on a job but thought they were more trouble than worth and at the time wasn't sure as was a new build if building inspector would go for them
