Hi Guys,

On a single story kitchen extension is it required to install a smoke/heat alarm??

Cheers

Just a word of caution

I vaguely remember that I read in one of the manufacturers instructions a while ago, that a heat alarm was not to be used independently,it was necessary to be linked to a smoke alarm

This may very well not be correct,so maybe someone can confirm

Put a smoke detector in the room next to said kitchen (if there aint't one already), then it's fully covered.

look in the building regs, cant remember correctly right now but it is dependant on wether there is a door between the kitchen and the rest of the living space, ie some kitchens just have a doorway/archway etc but no door,

Single storey is irrelevant, they exist to alert you to potential death.
Having said that, I didn't have any once, woke up on the bedroom floor about 4 in the morning trying to dial 999 with smoke about a foot off the floor...intereseting night that was!

dunno where the smokes come into anything, OP was about a kitchen and you dont have smokes in kitchens for obvious reasons, hence why i think it matters wether there is a door or not, like i said, building regs

We are having a new Fire Alarm set being installed in our block of flats now (house converted into 4 flats).

All smoke/heat alarms are radio linked,so no wires at all. They have a 10 year battery in each of them and they are all linked up to the main Fire board then, but the neat thing is if the alarms are activated m my flat they wont activate anywhere else in the block unless they keep sensing for over 10 mins
