Hi Guys,

On a single story kitchen extension is it required to install a smoke/heat alarm??

Cheers

We are having a new Fire Alarm set being installed in our block of flats now (house converted into 4 flats).

All smoke/heat alarms are radio linked,so no wires at all. They have a 10 year battery in each of them and they are all linked up to the main Fire board then, but the neat thing is if the alarms are activated m my flat they wont activate anywhere else in the block unless they keep sensing for over 10 mins
Just enough time for downstairs to burn down and block your escape route before your alarm goes off:93:

D80 I asked the same question on site and were told that all doors, walls and ceilings in multi occupied premises must be a 20 min fire rating hence the ten min constant monitoring timescale.

Smoke, now that's another story.

No smoke detector in hallway but there are doors between the living room and hallway. Kitchen has literally only been made bigger.
If Building Control is involved they will most likely pull you on that. Different set of rules and regs for them over here in NI but it seems to be that the fire detection and energy saving lighting is all they check electrically.

Could solve the issue potentially in fitting a battery detector in hallway (if Kitchen is a door to hallway?)

We had an Aico rep/ training provider come to our office talked us through there whole range. Talked through regulations regarding the smoke alarms and all got a pack off them included the wire wound book talked about before, a high vis, tax disc holder all sorts of bits and bobs. He came three or four times speaking to 10 at a time. Might be worth giving them a call really can't fault there customer service.
