Very small kitchen with an RSJ splitting the ceiling into two sections.

So, due to the barrier caused by the RSJ, I've put a smoke detector in the half away from the cooker, and don't know whether to put a smoke or heat in the other.

I would go for a heat alarm to reduce nuisance activation caused by burning toast and the like.

But .... If I go for the smoke ......

Is a heat alarm/detector as safe as a smoke?

Any opinions gratefully accepted. Thanks chaps and chappesses.

Be careful if you are fitting just an heat alarm, many heat alarms are not to be used on their own

I would say putting a smoke alarm in a kitchen is storing up nuisanse problems

The RSJ should not affect the operation of a heat alarm, they work on rate of rise of temperature, putting it the other side of the kitchen from the cooker would be my choice, but with no smoke alarm fitted in the kitchen

For some reason, the last job I did, the Building control officer insisted the heat alarm was above the cooker.

does the kitchen have a cooker hood that EXTRACTS to outside..?

As DES56 says, asking for nuisance alarms.. first bit of toast that burns or cooking a steak (properly)
