Half way through a kitchen refurb,clients are moving back in at weekend because of lockdown and i need to get some sockets and the oven working for them is this classed as essential work

I'd say that you have to apply logic to every job.
In your case above then I'd say it is essential.
If you need to repair a dangerous fault or something unsafe then, again, its essential.
If someone now wants to upgrade their kitchen for something better then it is not.
