Just as any appliance connection work for anyone who will be moving house on Friday (or any other day in the immediate future) and were too far in to delay.

I'd say that you have to apply logic to every job.
In your case above then I'd say it is essential.
If you need to repair a dangerous fault or something unsafe then, again, its essential.
If someone now wants to upgrade their kitchen for something better then it is not.
