I found this on a local news feed...a survey was done in December of council tenated homes and uncovered a plethora of safety failings. joke of a system and this is just one small borough...

  • Approximately 1,700 council homes were without a current electrical condition report
  • 1,000 homes had unsatisfactory electrical certificates
  • 100 communal blocks had no evidence of a current electrical condition report

No mention of the number of properties with a dodgy questionable satisfactory EICR then

Twas ever thus.

Every LA I've dealt with has always managed the remarkable combination of being unbelievably fussy and demanding over standards while managing to hold the worst going.

Did one a couple of years ago, sheltered housing so you think they'd try to get it right, built in the 80s, every flat had an identical fault - no ring continuity, traced to the same nonfitted (cable ends buried in plaster) socket in the kitchen.

So obviously, no worthwhile EICR/T&I/EIC etc had ever been carried out! You point these things out and you'll get an 'oh'. Cluelessness and incompetence mastered to perfection. Then people wonder why things like Grenfell happen.

Mind, if I had a penny for every time I've heard when reporting something unsafe "well it's never been a problem up till now"...
