I've been asked to wire for a new electric shower going into an existing shower cubicle, shower is currently
Mixer shower, as soon as I walked in the room I noticed the double socket right next to the cubicle.

It's a bedroom with the shower cubicle next to the bed.

Should I blank this socket off or is it nothing to do with me?

If you install the circuit for the shower you are taking responsibility for the design.

You have noticed a socket well within the "prohibited zone", so it has to go, or the shower moves, or no shower IMHO

you have a duty of care mate the socket has to go ,bedroom or not regs stat room containing bath or shower no sockets permitted unless as has been mention its 3 meters aways from Zone 1 and protected by an RCD , other than footballers not many people have got bathrooms that big

My first thought was "that's got to go" and your right I'm going to blank this socket off.. But I know sone sparks would have the attitude that it's existing, already there and I'm not touching the RFC.. So leave as is..

I'm going to blank it off anyway, it's a bedroom, I just hope the other socket on the opposite end wall is 3 meters away, which I doubt it will be, it's prob 2 meters, the customer is t going to be happy having a bedroom with all sockets blanked off...

there is an alternaive build a stud wall round it with a roof and door then it will be classed as a seperate room , what i would do is insist that the remaining sockets in the room are RCD protected too , on this one existing or not there is a potential risk , the installation may be existing but i bet the shower isnt so when the shower was installed it altered the room to themn come into special locations which was the smae in 16th edition too .. think im waffling on a bit so ill shut up lol

Could it have been that the shower was originally a sink, then the householder thought that seeing as there was already plumbing there it would be more useful as a shower?
Nothing against plumbers but they might not have considered the implications of the nearby socket.

IMO the best solution would be a stud partition to put the socket outside the zones, but I'd want to see it in place before signing off the shower.
And consider how effective the ventilation is.
