Reading the thread back, we don't know if the bath is in a separate compartment within the room or not. The OP hasn't clarified this point, and seems to imply that the bath is in the room with no partition - a bit unusual? I can't think WHY you would put an ensuite in any room without partitioning it off. Imagine sharing a room and being forced to have a poo whilst the other half is watching the TV??? Gross, or what!

So if the OP means that the bathrooms will be enclosed in stud walling as a separate room, and the existing socket is not in that room, then it's not an issue. If the hotelier is planning to put an open plan bathroom within the room, then please let me know where the place is so that the missus and I can avoid it!

It has been known, as if you watch Grand Design and other similar programs have seen people do that

If you are altering or extending a circuit the whole circuit must comply with the curant regs

erm....no it doesnt

YOUR work must comply with the regs, not the exisiting work

take an upstairs ring, not on an RCD

I could install a spur, surface mount the cable, and use an SRCD for the outlet

take a bathroom light, i could take a sw/fuse spur off an RCD protected ring

both these examples are perfectly in line with the 17th edition requirements, and I have not made the whole circuit comply with the current regs, just the bit I have done;)

Ok.... i wish the OP had a pic !!
Yes many modern homes have open plan Baths in the bedroom> But never a toilet !

if this is the case then yes i would imagine 3 mtr min

So this addresses my point on SRCD´s moving towards obsoletion i.e. NOT - although in practice it´s likley that a customer in a domestic situation won´t want surface mounted - therefore we are back to RCDing the circuit at the CU and modifying the whole circuit to the 17th.

the hotel room has a bath that has been recently installed with no partition so the existing socket is less than 3M away i advised on removin the socket but the owner wanted more sockets putting in the room isnt even 3M in length
anyway she got some odd job man to put extra sockets in the room

There is a plug socket about an inch from our kitchen sink! I once splashed a sink full of water in it! When I grow up...I want a bathroom with a TV fitted into the wall, so I can watch the soaps while I lather up!

Sounds like my landlord,my 8kw shower is doubled up with the ring main on a 30a rewirable:)

we could always run an extention lead in to the bathroom and use a portable on th edge of bath .you could plug your hair drier in as well and a radio or electric fire, and eat some of those hash cakes and drift away baby ,ill come and join you ,we could have a great afternoon ,fancy it:cool:

Do you know Rumrunner I did do that once.

I got a little stool put it next to the bath and put the tv on it and ran the extention cable out into the hall. It was bliss.

I don't have the recipe for hash cakes though.

Now that I have joined this forum, I am going to endeavour to make more sensible electrical decisions.

Theres no need to be so formal ,Rum or Mr Rumrunner ,will do,you dont need much of a recipe for hash cakes, make a cake mix ,preferably quite sweet with freash cream, add copious amounts of hashish ,bake and lay back, listen to a bit of trippy ,driting music and relax ,easy ,you will be an expert in no time .incidently its how some women give birth in some countrys.have fun;)

Hmmm. Not such a bad idea methinks. When we went to pre-natal classes it amazed me the number of women who wanted a natural birth surrounded by handmaidens sprinking rose petals, a harpist and whalesong to make it a lovely, soothing experience. When the time came they were no doubt screaming for drugs like everyone else! Thankfully my wife isn't so daft, and was planning on maxing out on whatever they would give her (general anaesthetic in both cases :( ), but I'm sure she'd go along with the hash cakes idea!
