hello peeps,

can someone help me.

I have an old 3036 plastic type board which is in general ok condition, meets all current regs apart from socket outlets needing rcd protection.

What is best way forward?

I have seen it before were for example thhey will be 3 ring mains and what the electrician has done has installed a new small board next to the old one. The new board has no main switch but has 3 rcbos it. each circuit on the old board is then wired in 4mm from the 30a breaker into the rcbo and then back out the 2 2.5mm cables which normally gets an extension on it via crimps inside the old board. this would be done for each circuit individual circuit.

Is this good practice and within the regs?

the only thing you might say was unconventional is that you have 2 OCPDs in series, the 30A 3036 and the MCB part of your RCBO, but can't see anything that contravenes regs.

easy said then done when ya got a client that wants the job dont correct to the regs but the cheapest way possible.

3xrcbo's, 1x enlosure, and a couple of meters of 4mm will end up costing 50/60 quid. You can buy a fully populated dual RCD board for about the same money, the only extra will be a bit more labour.

in alot of commerical sites i visit a single rcd unit is not an option as they need RCBOs even if a new board was getting installed as not all circuits want RCD protection and each of the circuits need seperate protection incase of nusience tripping

I'm inclined to agree with a couple of threads here. Just be done with it and change the consumer unit. At the cost of a bit more labour all circuits would be protected provided you installed a duel rcd board. It would prob look a lot neater too
