Hello, I have just been offered an apprenticeship with a company that specialises in renewable energy (solar panels) however I am worried that I will struggle to complete the course at college that I will attend once a week due to this. As the course I am doing is domestic installations, should I be worried or will I be okay?
thanks for taking the time to read this.

Do they only do solar? Do they do things like ground/air source heat pumps, biomass, energy efficient lighting? Also do they do domestic & commercial solar?

Aye of course mate, just have no idea as to how this college thing works, I'm wanting to know if I can rely on college and my own extra hours learning to make me pass the course all the way to level 3.

You say this course is domestic installations. Do you know the course provider and code? Like city and guilds or EAL.

Thats definitely the course you want to be on, so that's a good start. The work you will be doing is quite limiting but I would say you will cover enough to get through. If you think about it some people do full time courses and don't get experience out in the field until the very end when they are forced to seek employment to complete their logbooks. I say go for it mate, there is plenty of people that would like to be in your shoes right now being offered an apprenticeship.

100% got for it it's an opportunity thousands would love to have! I was day release in when I was at college, quite intensive and a lot of work out of college but worth it! Plus it sounds like a good mix of stuff, electric gates is something you'll enjoy, especially in the summer months! Good luck!

Yeah I'm looking forward to both college and work, he wants me to start a week on Monday, so that's good! Is college mainly coursework or practical or a mix of both? Thanks.

There is a bit of practical when it comes to testing, but think it was just a solid week we done!

You'll find a lot of the stuff is irrelevant to what you're doing at the time but it needs to be done, you have a logbook which you will need to do throughout the course, this can be a pain, it's just a record of the practical stuff you do at work! it can be tough at times but it's worth it!

I'm sure you'll have plenty of college related questions to ask in the future, would be an idea to join the trainee section of the forum!
