I am a qualified electrician not registered personally but work for a registered company, have done for several years. Mainly focusing on domestic installations.

I have recently finished some work for a close friend of mine off my own back not through the company I work for, a house re-wire and extension which has been ongoing on and off for over 2 years.

I have issued an EICR through the company I work for to show the work is up to standards and everything has been tested and checked (upon asking advice from more senior electricians as to how to certify the work) my friend has payed the company for this report. The building inspector has seen the condition report but wants to know who has done the install, so here's where I need some advice: is it ok to tell him I've done the install and issued an EICR through a company? I presume the inspector just wants to know the work has been carried out by someone competent and not the friend in question or someone else? however I am a little bit worried as I don't want to get in trouble with building regs for doing the work in the first place.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

was the extension subject to building control? if so, they should accept proof of your qualifications and issue a completion cert. under part pee. and as above ^^^.

Hi telectrix, thanks for the reply. Yes the extension is subject to building control and I believe my friend has had them out several times during the project to check on the progress. There's no question the work is up to standards and has been done competently as mentioned I am a qualified electrician, my worry is the building inspector pulling up an issue because I haven't installed the work through my registered company. Just for full transparency I haven't been paid for the work I've done, I've done it for my friend over a long period of time to help him out as he has been through some difficult times and wanted to help him. Thanks for getting back to me

From my own personal experience, my LBC would not accept my qualifications to carry out notifiable work on my own house, with a Building Notice. However bizarrely, they did say an EICR carried out, by a Scheme registered electrician, would suffice.

There appears to be no clear guidance, and each LBC has its own approach.
