Hello everyone,

Was recommended this site by a friend who suggested i may be able to source some help.

I understand that the majority of you will be professional, working sparks but i am not looking to get a walk through as to how to do this as i understand that you will be reluctant (rightly so) to give advice on serious matters such as electrical installations over the internet for safety reasons, i am however just asking for a nudge in the right direction so i can act appropriately and order the right gear.

I am not an electrician but will be sourcing one to do the work when the time comes, i just want to get my ducks in a row first and understand what the best course of action is.

So the scenario looks as follows:

63amp type D 3 phase mcb, protecting a length ( circa 20 metres) of 10mm [i believe] armoured cable which terminates into a 63A switched fused box. From this box two seperate legs have been taken which feed two seperate 32A switched boxes which isolate the power to 2 large food grade mixing vessels. One of these mixing vessels has become obsolete in production and we no longer need its service, so i would like to utilise that 32amp capability and run a feed into a seperate part of the building about 10 meters away to power some 20amp 3 phase N+E sockets in a ring.

So thats the set up but my question is this, how can i run some 6mm SWA from this 32amp switched fuse box to this other area WITHOUT installing a distribution board at the cost of ÂŁ100 plus. I only want one circuit after all but need a way to break down the SWA cable and then run the rest of the circuit in SY flex. Will this circuit need RCD protecting?

Many thanks and apologies if any terminology is wrong or i have confused the bejeezes out of you.

you say you are getting an electrician to do the work, so why bother yourself with the technicalities? let him see the job and he will decide on how to do it. that;s what you're paying him for.

correctly rated terminal box with DIN rail and terminals. terminate and gland the SWA and run your SY feed from here into a one/two way enclosure with the circuit protective device.

get electrician in to quote the job for you. he will do all the calculations re cable and components, and fit the correct equipment. the hassle is all his then.

Have you got an N at the point at which you wish to start your "new" supply to the TPNE sockets?
A 3ph machine does not necessarily need one, so there may not be one available, thus, you are scuppered at your first hurdle!

Oh, and as the other guys suggest, get a Spark or Electrical Engineer in to look at it.

:welcome:
