Doing some remedial work at a large student accommodation and the pull switch light stayed on all the time..I thought that the line and s/line were connected wrong...pulled down the pull cord and found this
Had me thinking there for a moment, why have they used that switch for a light (and why is "that" happening to it) then i realised you meant that the indicator neon on the shower switch was staying on!
I can see a few problems but will leave that for others!
I hope it's not a diyers job..I'm at a student building with 70ish rooms...that was the only one with the live black but I've come across about 9 rooms where either the shower neutral shows black near the tips and I've had a few in the DB that had a couple of neutrals that were black..since I'm training and never send this before I thought a lose connection may cause it but not in that many rooms surely
If the building was wired in one go then the same person could well have wired the showers in a large quantity of rooms and if the standard was imilar to that then the problems will mount up.
You can also get overheating if there is dirt building up on the terminals and tracking down the cables.
Or as said above if the cable is not rated for the showers.
The "black" line conductor there has a loose strand and so the full current will be going through a smaller csa and could well overheat.
