Specialist firm for running cables in underground?

As the title says, I wonder if anyone has any knowledge of specialists firm who run in armoured cables underground?

I have a 250m run of two cables, possibly around 4core 150mm across a field that I'm looking at. I wouldn't even know where to start in pricing something like this so I'd like to get in touch with a firm that specialises in such a project. If anybody has any information, it would be greatly appreciated.

In the past we've used a local groundworks company.
We had to run a supply in to the middle of some woods appox 900m and got a groundworks contractor in they even laid the cable.

digging the trench is the 1st thing.
if it is running across fields, often the farmer who looks after the land will be happy to dig a trench and back fill it. (for a few bits of paper)

you have a couple of options, either pay more for a complete job by a company that does cable laying or draft in some labour from the farmer and buy some sand to lay surround the cable and do it yourself with his labour.

Screw digging, mole it. Get the farmer to hire a mole and duct the run with pre lubed and strung lengths.

The groundwork costs alone for digging a quarter kilometer trench will run in to the tens of thousands!

Whoever does the job, ensure that the cable's position is accurately marked on the farm maps afterwards.

We end up doing at least 3 or 4 of these a year for ourselves , and have chain trenchers , both walk behind and tractor mounted along with a digger and a selection of moles .
I keep toying with the idea of building a sand trailer as well with side unloading conveyor belts.
To go behind the compact tractors we have for reinstatement work of the trenches with rotovators and the like
It is not just about digging the trench it's about the capability of moving the cable drum and also laying the cable some of which way in excess of 3 ton.
We have specially adapted lengthened and widened fork carriages that fit both loaders and the back of tractors , along with uprated solid bars long enough for 2 loaders to move the big cables in tandem if needed.

Going by Batt cables specification each length will be about 2.1 ton on its own without the cable drum.
You will not want to be pulling that on its own let alone along side another one in a duct.
In my opinion the best way is always to open a cut and lay it in , far less chance of damages to the sheathing or even stretching the cable .
As Damian has mentioned mole ploughing is possible and we also have one of these , but the horse power to get a cable that size layed to a minimum depth of 1000mm on productive agriculture land is f""""g colossal and the likely hood of damaged sheathing is near on certain on that size cable , without the carnage you do to the drainage of the field without even knowing where to repair it when you go through it.

Decent ground workers are a possible option but if we did not carry all the gear in house I would always turn to agricultural drainage contractors for a job like this , and even now still do on some of the really big lengths.

A job like this should be ££££ not £££££s

If farm equipment is available, a 2 tonne reel of cable shouldn't present problems. I could handle that with my own farm gear, and most of my stuff is small by modern standards

I totally agree and tend to utilise on farm equipment where possible to keep the costs to a minimum.
But I would venture to say that I guarantee your pallet tines will not be wide enough , unless you are handling potato or veg boxes .
