how do you interperet the regs regarding garage consumer unit and split load. do they fallunder same regs as for normal consumer unit as in split load setup as you cant seem to get a s
plit load garage unit.

having all circuits protected by rcd is a 17th ed reg (under normal domestic circumstances no mech protection etc etc) but im not sure whether a split load cu is a reg, or just good practice.
I stand corrected if im wrong with the above.
You could always buy a 2 way garage cu and fit 2 rcbo's if you want them seperate.

If the garage is a separate building to the house then it will/should already have a 30ma protection from the main. I agree withe the separate rcbo's but you may need to change the msin protection from the house to a time delayed rcd, Without the time delay the rcbos will be surplus.

why should it be fed from an RCD if it's fed in SWA? have we all gone RCD mad. chuck in any old cobbled up installation and it will be OK coz. it's got an RCD.

I could be mistaken but I'm almost certain that all circuits outside the main construction need to be rcd protected. I have'nt got regs in front of me but will check next time I have

no all circuits in , say , a garage/shed need to be installed in accordance with BS7671. RCDs are not required except on sockets for general use and circuits where cables are concealed in walls < 50mm deep without mechanical protection.

Who needs a reg book with you around Tel!!

Couldn't you go for quoting regs numbers to see if they actually own the BGB??
