Point taken...and I believe the op has looked for conformation on this also. But would like to remind people that the BSI is conducted by the same committee for all BS standards.
 
I was trained at BSI House London......and would like to think my trainers and writers consulted each other...with their names being on all bs related documentation.
 
During my apprenticeship I worked on Mather & Platt motors. They were rated at 2xFLT (full load torque) virtually indestructible.

I’ve seen them on fire but still running. The only protection they had was a 1000A OCB

I've worked on M&P stuff also, but not fire pumps, they were a central hydraulic system for a foundry, so water based fluid, as you say almost indestructible.
Mind these did have starters and OCPD's as they were not for fire duty!
In fact one of them failed once and popped the overpressure disks from a couple of the 60ft tall accumulators, the disks were never found...
