Sorry if this has been answered before but i couldn't find anything about it in the first 15 pages or so.

As the title says im starting up by myself. i've been out of work for a month or so, so i've decided to setup my own business, i've got everything i need but the only thing im unsure about is which CP scheme to go with also from what i've heard elecsa charge you extra if i wanna do PIR's ( dont know if thats true or not). so how do i go about the assessment will i have to get the jobs signed off by building control first or can i sign them off after i pass (and will i have to notify building control that the jobs are starting). thanks in advance.

Starting up for yourself is not an easy thing to do but if you are determined then yep go for it although there is no rule that says you must be employed or self employed you can do both ie work for an employer and then run a business all the tax man is concerned is that you declare your earnings other than that you have to study the market you want to be in so I do repairs and maintenance but not rewires , kitchens extentions why ? well for me there is no money in it plus I know my market and my customer I also live in a city and thats how i target my customers by flyer, website or listings

Hi

When i set up on my own i booked my napit assessment and it was due before i finished my first job (a new build property) so was told i did not need to worry about building control as i could sign it off once the napit stuff all came back, which is what i did, didnt have any problems.

im just thinking that if told them im starting a board change for example then once i've finished i've got 30 days to notify which if my assessment falls in that 30 days then i could sign it off afterwards without having to pay building control.
