Hello everybody,

I'm new here as well as in the UK and I have few uncertainties regarding starting career as electrician. I was hoping that you'll help me sort out those things:)
First of all, I have Lithuanian Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. Secondly, I would like to start my career as electrician or electrician's mate. I don't want to be self employed and all the job ads I saw require CSCS/ECS card and some of them 17th Edition. What troubles me is this: if I'll get 17th edition and ECS card as Electrical labourer (I was told by ECS that I can't get ECS card as Electrician because I don't have NVQ level 3 and my degree is not equivalent to NVQ level 3), would I be eligible to get any work related to electricity (say, electricians mate or technician, etc.)?
What are your opinions? Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Vilius

Welcome to the forum. The best thing you can do is go back to Lithuania and look for work there. The construction industry in this country is in a very bad way. There are thousands of fully qualified British electricians out of work. Those that are in work are seeing pay rates drastically reduced partly due to the massive influx of foreign workers coming here.So to be realistic you have no chance of becoming an electrician without the correct qualifications and if you do you will probably find it very hard to make a decent living

Hi,

So whats your Lithuanian Bachelors degree in electrical engineering equivalent to then, I have a fealing it would be like HNC or even HND which is even higher then level 3, I just think that the key word here is NVQ, I suppose..
