Which one do you prefer using and why?

Steel as the plastic capping can split when your banging a nail in

Steel capping for me, i actually thinks its easier to handle anyway.
Easier to cut without risk of it splitting, can bend it without it snapping and come fixing, a few screws and/or washers and you are sorted

Neither, personally I prefer to use 0val tube. Looks neater and you can easily pull through it.

What about in new builds/extensions when you're fixing to a wall that a plasterer will float and set? Oval tube will require chasing in.

Prefer oval, as above it’s abit neater, sits in chases better imo

Just curious why heavy gauge? I'd use 20mm light gauge, tracked in.

It would depend if it was across the sub floor and up the wall, rather than down the wall.

This would be in buildings with bison slabs upper floors
