Forever caught out on smaller jobs by not having something in the van be it a fcu or double patress box, I've even considered doing a weekly stock take on bits in the van. My problem is on the small jobs you lose all profit if you dont have the parts there and then (return journey etc..).

So how does everyone else get on min stock levels wise?

Regards Alex

How do you lose on parts you don't carry on your van?

Surely you have either A) seen the job so know what is needed or B) Turned up to a breakdown in which you should charge for going to purchase any materials needed.

i try and keep mine like noah's arc, at least 2 of everything im likely to need(within reason)

stuff like spurs/sockets/switches you cant have too many of

i have a little book that i note down everytime im running low so i know to get it next time im at the merchants

i turn up at alot of jobs blind so i wont know until im there, and as you said every trip out to the whole salers is £££ down the drain!

i also buy stuff that i use constantly like back boxes/sockets/trunking/pvc tube etc in huge bulk so they are cheaper in the long run then charge customer list price per item +10%

You need to be careful about overstocking as well, though. I'm currently sat on ££££'s of stuff I need to get rid of from inadvertantly over-buying on larger jobs.

so, why not compile a lsit and sell some unwanted stock on her ( for sale forum, of course )

Big van, i know it's in there somewhere!

Look long enough i will find it, sometimes i have to take out half the stock to find it!

Bol****s i'l go to merchants, it's quicker!
you tried the dustbins, TC?

Having the stock there increase's the likelyhood of getting the extra work i.e cracked pendant quick replace £20 if i'm there with bits, if I've to go to wholesalers 1/2 hour away price then becomes £40 and customers all to quickly say dont bother.
