Discuss stopped smoking in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

I did get hooked on the nicorette gum for about 2 years after 6 months of patchs - its not always easy!

i have been thinking of quiting for ages, but over the past two weeks i have been serious about it, the i saw this post andit has inspired me after reading all the sucsess stories and thought what am i waiting for? and have just thrown a packet of 18 away, got em back out of bin and poured water on them (just incase).

thanks.

Good luck mate it is worth it. Consider all the shinny new tools and gadgets you can get with the money you save.

Hey Jacobaz

Hope your doing well ! if needed dont forget there is still NHS and GO SMOKE FREE to help you through the bad times it would have been harder if i didnt have the NRT and went cold chicken !
Best of luck !

Kung.
P.S. Good choice ! saved me ÂŁ140 a mth and i was smoking the cheapest brand !

Another thing to remember ,a doctor told me even if you have been smoking for 20 years say, you are not necessarily addicted to nicotine .To start I was really nervous about withdrawal and had patches after a week got rid and was fine .Moral of story is everyones gonna be different .Its not the stopping its the staying stopped that may be tricky.

I will have been off the weed for 5 years next Month, keep at it you will be alright, if you struggle try changing your routine a bit so you avoid periods where you would normally expect to have a smoke, also (don't laugh) try some gentle jogging, you will be amazed how quickly your lung capacity increases which is a good incentive, finally i suggest everyone goes to the images bit of google and put in 'smokers lungs'

Good luck

Yep.

Dont buy any. :D

Seriously, in the past, i have set a date, say, a few weeks time, and stick to it and start then.

I also used to keep the clean ashtray and a pack and lighter in the cupboard but obviously not touch them.

Patches worked for me, and knowing the stash is still in the cupboard, makes it a little easier, as you dont feel like you are going 'cold turkey'.

Also what i done was kept the ashtray in my room with last smokes smoked and for a few days puffed on a dogend without lighting it felt like i had a smoke and after few days its amazing how bad the smell of the old stogies are ! its been 7 weeks now and people can smoke in front of me without me being bothered about it of wanting one im just glad with the price of smokes i stopped now.
Thanks for the comments and support.
Kind regards

Nice one. I quit in March so 3 months for me now.
From 40 B&H a day toÂŁ300 a month richer:)
I went to my local nurse and she suggested Champix. Worked like a charm.
Side effects were a slight sick feeling about halfway through the course when i took a tablet and the vivid dreams.
I'm still coughing up a lot of rubish (can one of you long time quiters tell me if thats normal?) but sooo glad I did it.

Anyway, well done.
