Hello all, I have a question regarding storage heaters. The new types that also need an off peak supply as well as a 24 hour supply. My first question is why do they need two supply's, and secondly can the storage heaters run only on a 24 hour supply since there is no off peak supply installed.

the idea having two supplys to a storage heaters when off peak is switched off you can then keep the rooms nice a warm ,on the other hand on peak it will cost more money during the day .

The 24hr supply keeps the controller powered for the timer to turn the heaters on when it's Off peak.
And for the controller to monitor the room temperature during the day to work out how much to charge up the Storage heater overnight.

They can run off a single 24hr supply if it's rated for the total heater use and if there's an Economy 7 or similar Electric meter than switches the 24hr supply to Off peak over night.

Have you got a duel rate meter?

Like in my house I have a duel rate meter but only one set of meter tails to the consumer unit, so for 7 hours over night my electricity is half price compared with the day

The previous owners had single rate electric tariff, and they submitted there reading by adding the peak and off peak reading together. I am now on an economy 7 tariff which the meter is designed for mainly because when I brought the house it was heated via LPG gas bottles which are crazy exspensive, I worked out it is much cheaper to heat my water up over night on economy 7 and i have a storage heater for background heating which heats the bricks inside it up at night time, and a nice log burner for other heating

As I only have a single supply which is on 24hr I have timers on the storage heater and immersion heater which are set to switch on when the meter is off peak only

STorage radiators need an off peak supply. The cheaper (off peak) supply heats up bricks during the night. The heat discharges during the day. Some storage radiators also have connection to a second standard supply that is always on. This supply is heats up a separate heating element that can be used as a heating boost whenever needed. This is basically a standard convection heater and does not heat up the storage heater bricks.
If you do not have an off peak supply then there is no point you having storage radiators, you willl get no benefit and they are very expensive items. For your application, normal, cheaper panel convection heaters are what you should use.
