Right I've been in this game for a while now, but one recurring problem I'm having is getting knock out boxes nice and level at first fix after chasing (we're talking existing installations here, new builds are a piece of pee). I get it OK but it just seems to take me forever, and I'm still fully utilising the movable lug in the box! I've never had much guidance on this as when I wasn't on my own I pretty much always was doing surface stuff (gaffer had a lot of council house work). Has anyone got any ideas for getting backboxes good and level first time, every time? Nice one guys.

I am already a massive advocate of the scutch. The most revolutionary hand tool to be made in the last 50 years, I'd rcommend one to anyone.
Yeah seen one of those in screwfix the other day, wondered what they were all about? Think I might pick one up tommorrow then and give it a try.

One think I hate about chasing boxes in is with old bricks, when it all fall to bits and you've got about and 1" square to fix to !! Urghh. But discovered recently expanding foam, but not the normal stuff... this stuff you buy a gun attachment for and you can control what comes out... so no worries with one screw holding the box back just about in place, just buzz a bit of this round an dry and solid as in few hours. Alternative method and bit less mesy than bonding.

For marking out, especially kitchens.... laser every time, brillant bit of kit.... spot on for doing your down lights also.

did a lat in an old georgian house recently and the wall was made of what i can only describe as hardcore I.E rubble and flint all held with some kind of mortar which crumbled when you sneezed on it, had a 4" hole in there by the tie i'd finished, had to wedged a bit of wood i there pack ot with bonding wait for bonding to go off and then screw box to wood!!
