Recently a couple of threads have discussed T&E cable and it became apparent to me that the 2.5mm, which I have only ever seen as solid core, is available with the live cores in 7-strand (rather like the old 7/.029" imperial size, though with solid CPC and not the 3-strand seen before). In fact CEF list it as available (but not stocked locally, as usual, and no maker information):

Does anyone know of specific use-cases where this is specified?

Has it simply been familiarity with previous installations using the stranded imperial size?

We use cef for 90% of our stuff no one else can get near them on price for most things we do spend 100k+ a month
Ah, that probably makes a difference!

We probably don't spend 10k a year in total on "electrical" items, let alone with and single supplier so all I ever get from CEF is the occasional 10% discount code.

Blimey, if you're spending 1.2 million a year with them I imagine that entitles you to the gold treatment with fellatio in the car park etc. All I get from them is verbal abuse for going to Screwfix.

I don't find TLC prices that great...my local (21 miles away lol) independent wholesaler hammers them on price on everything, as do pretty much all wholesalers I have accounts with (YESSS, CEF, Mercers, Kew). All with free delivery, and generally same day if ordered before the van leaves.

Edit:
Then add in the costs of delivery to Northern Ireland and TLC is a total none event

Of course NI is a non event, but on the mainland they are very convenient, and generally they have stock at one or other of their depots, do you not have something that reliable in NI?

Its not so strange really that in SE England, TLC, Screwfix, Edmonds, Toolstation are never very far away from each other, certainly in Maidstone and Ashford all within a mile, In Maidstone TLC and Edmonds are opposite each other on the same industrial estate, Toolstation and Screwfix on the Estate next door almost.
