A gardener friend of mine called me in, he was cutting ivy done from a wall and sawed straight through a cable. It's not armoured but does have a copper sheath inside the rubber sheathing. It's seven core around what looks like a solid yellow plastic core. Copper diameter is 1.5 mm (approx).

Weirdly it seems to run between two houses on different streets.

Anyideas what this might be?

could it be disused cable tv

agree with tel comms or TV go check your reception the solid yellow core could just be plastic used to strengthen the cable
