Hi,
It's been a long day and maybe i'm missing something here but I have encountered an odd lighting problem.
Called to a job to replace a faulty light switch (end of 2 way circuit). Swapped out switch put power back on and BANG!. One kaput switch. MCB tripped. That shouldn't happen I thought so removed switch and tested for voltage and got 230v across the common and blue strapper. Checked behind other switch at start of circuit for incorrectly terminated cable but nothing untoward.
Dropped light fitting, happened to be last light on circuit, nothing unusual here. Tested all cables relative to circuit, switch drop, 2 way etc , all ok.
I'm scratching my head now, so swapped out the light fitting (surface GU10 chrome spots) for a batten lamp holder. Switched back on, hurrah! no voltage between common and strapper. Noticed I hadn't put lamp in so fitted and tested again just to double check and lo & behold voltage has returned. Lamp out, no voltage, lamp in, voltage.
Didn't have time to investigate further and will return tomorrow but have never come across anything like this before.
Can anyone enlighten me (no pun intended)
PS The reason this has not happened previously is because only one of the 2 way switches has ever been used but new tenants have just moved in and by bringing it into use have exposed fault, possibly.
