Marc, apologies, I in no way meant to convey that. I have nothing but respect for sparks so sorry if it sounded like that, I just meant taking a light off and replacing it wasn't the hardest job in the world but I've obviously messed something up!
I'll take some pictures and post them up. Thanks for your help again.
 
To the OP, it sounds like you have got your wires crossed. The golden rule with anything like this, is mark everything up before you start taking stuff apart, take some photo's and then you will have a good chance of getting it all back together again.

Unless you have a continuity tester and know how to use it, then you need a local spark to sort you out. Should be about an hour or so if you explain exactly what you have done. If you choose not to say exactly what you have done, he will find out, but it will take a lot longer, and time is money!

Cheers Howard but I took pics and the lives were marked etc so I don't know how I could have messed up so badly!
I've attached the pictures of the original wiring and I've rewired exactly.
Could it be a fuse or is there something glaringly wrong?!
