Hi need help please, just come across a 2 way lighting arrangement that has used red yellow and blue coming from ceiling rose to switch instead of strappers going from switch to switch, then splitting the blue to run another light while keeping the red and yellow intact.in ceiling rose there was red and black joined in loop as normal but then red, yellow and blue also wanted to remove 2 way and just keep 1 way as no longer needed. Removed red yellow and blue and joined reds and blacks together to keep loop but did not work.any ideas

The three core from light to switch is probably used to provide a neutral at switch (in addition to feed + sw return) -
What cables are at 2nd switch?

So are you a DIYer (in which case fine but you are in the wrong forum) or an electrician who has said to the customer...'Actually I cant work this light out,do you mind if I go and ask an internet forum how it works and then I'll come back next week and sort it out?......should only be two visits,80 notes alright?'

Whip the switch off and have a look if the 3 core is in the switch red yellow blue check in the ceiling rose where the wires are connected possibly red to loop in out blue or yellow to the live side of the pendant , quick continuity tests to ensure the cables are the correct ones at the switch , if it is the wire wire as I have stated but leave either the yellow or the blue disconnected so you have two wires connected one not , and wire red to common and blue or yellow to L1

Why hasn't this thread been moved to the DIY section?

why can't people work anything out anymore?
Because of the internet they don't know what they are doing, so they get there iphone out and ask questions an electrician labourer would of known years ago, before the internet they kill there selves or an electrician his called and he fixes it

Yep fairley basic stuff, had this once when asked to remove an intermediate and move a 2 way on an opposite wall every colour available was used no locical pattern, the lad and a multi had it sorted before I got back with the rolls
