Hello All,

where i live we have a residents association that put on local events in the area. They are looking at the possibility of putting up a christmas tree in the little shopping centre we have here and have had permission off the council too use the electricity supply for the streetlighting to power there christmas tree lights. However, they have also said that it will cost nearly ÂŁ1000 too add an 16amp commando outlet too one of the streetlights. They have asked me too look into this too find out whether that is a realistic cost or not, having no experience in public lighting i wanted too get some opinions on how this could be achieved and how easy/difficult it actually is too do! (i am on the councils approved contractors list so they are hoping i may be able too do it for them at a slightly lower rate!)

thanks for all your comments.

Gavin

Whilst ÂŁ1k sounds steep, when you start to actually break it down it's probably not that unreasonable - and I'm talking now about doing a proper job of it and installing a permanent outlet in a cabinet.

i dont understand the thread ?

if youre an approved contractor then you shouldnt need any technical help with a simple job such as fitting a pole mounted socket with a rcd unit stuck inside a lampost.
and we cant tell you whether your price will be lower than the councils , thats for you to assertain.

what did you want to know exactly ?

anyway , your residents committee dont realise that the council wont let you faff around with their street lighting network unless you have the G39 certificate & electrical highways contractor accreditation.

did you ?

;-)
