struggling to find an Employer in Edinburgh to start as an adult trainee electrician

Hello all,

I am 35 years old and have 7 years of work experience as an Electrician in the past. I need to gain a UK qualification because my qualifications are not recognised in the UK.I have been looking for an employer in the Edinburgh area, to start as an adult trainee electrician, for almost one year. I did contact alot of companies online, by post and telephone, without any positive response.
I sat the Electrical IndustryPre-employment Assessment and achieved the required standard.
and I am already on SECTT's list of people looking for employers.
Could anyone give me help and advice please?

Best wishes,

So your telling me that two courses which it it possible to do both within a week you can set yourself up as a spark ,,,,,scary ..

Is that really an acceptable situation?

Yes unfortunately its worse than that. All you have to do is sit a 5 day course and each and every scheme. Elecsa, Napit & NICEIC will let you join there club. It is scary.

I suppose though anyone who has little experience will be found out by their customer....hopefully before any lives are taken or injured!

This is what everybody is getting at. The minimum requirement to trade as an electrician is shocking. The schemes are nothing more than money making scams!

I have to confess that i had looked at joining one of these schemes for Pat testing my reasoning being that i have nothing to hide and the would welcome being inspected and the facility to prove by virtue of the scheme that i aint no label slapper. The problem is that these schemes are quite expensive just to check a couple of pat sites.

I have done as much as i can now to demonstrate that i my pat is up to scratch ..years of onsite experience cg2377 100&200 17th edition and sat (&very probably failed) the cg 2391 course .
