Well what a stressfull morning after meeting a bunch of idiots while walking my dog, some of you may remember I recently got a new german shepherd that had been mistreated, well she is wary of other dogs and nervous of some men so I took her to a dog trainer for some advice and was told to keep a reasonable distance from other dogs and gradually get her used to them that way.Well this morning we went to the local park for a stroll she had her harness on and a muzzle just to be safe we walked around and kept our distance and things were going very well until a stupid man with a retreiver lets it come bounding right over to us.I shouted for him to call it back and he took no notice,my dog starts to bark and jump up I,m trying to calm her down and this stupid woman starts giving me abuse about how I shouldn,t have my dog in the park if I can,t control it! I,m doing my best to explain that my dog is on a lead and muzzled and her friends dog was the one not under control.ended up telling her to mind her own effing business and go away, think they own the park some people how am I supposed to get my dog used to other dogs with loons like that about?

Some people are very thick and should never have pets.... or children come to think of it.

difficult. if you dog is muzzled, she can't defend herself if attacked. as she's on lead, then that'll have to be your job. size 9's, but then the numpties will complain about you kicking their dog. a good idea might be to take her to dog training where she can start socialising with other dogs and there owners in a controlled environment with responsible owners.

[ElectriciansForums.net] stupid dog ownershow about a minder. she's only 2lb., but she's feisty.

As a retriever owner the only thing i would say is that they are friendly, exuberant, daft as a brush and most haven't got a bad bone in there bodies. Now German shepherds.......................

What you need is a walking stick with the probes of your Insulation Resistance Tester taped to the end of it. ;)

There's a class near us in a community centre. Two old ladies run it twice a week for ÂŁ1.50 a pop, going there with our german shepherd was the best thing I could have done for him.
How is your new best mate getting on Phil?

I have the same problem with dumb --- dog owners around here on the seafront, where there are signs saying to keep dogs on a lead.
My Dog Trigger (patterdale cross) now has no eyes, he can walk on the lead perfectly fine, but if a strange dog approaches him the bitch I have (brown patterdale rough coat) will defend him, she is normally harmless but she will give a warning snap not a bite.
I did grab someone else's dog by the scruff the other week an held it up until the owner came over to get it, I did tell them if it happens again I will boot the bloody thing.

The irresistable need to say hi and play with any close by dog is the only thing I've not been able to train out of our german shepherd. It's nearly got me into trouble a couple of times but luckily he is well known now in all the places we take him so he's usually in a pack of other daft playful dogs in a closed off bit of the park. When not there he is on the lead so easy to control.
It's not rocket science is it:)

Exactly I had a retriever years ago and they are indeed great dogs but the owner should realise that not all dogs are playfull and that it is a public park and not his private field. He was lucky today and all he achieved was to ruin my training schedule, there are however some people with staff crosses use the park and they dont wear muzzles, had the same thing happen a few years back training a police dog and some fool let a weimeraner leap out of his car and run at me,the police dog ended up with his dogs head in it,s mouth as it thought I was being attacked.told the bloke he was lucky our dog wasn,t hurt as the police vets are expensive lol.Tel would you care to be a bit more specific on your location,as my missus wants to come and nick your dog, she thinks its lovely me I,ve always had german sheps though love em to bits.
