I also own a German Shepherd, Bitch. She's a softy but likes to play with every other dog. She's experienced other dogs not liking her approach and come running back with her tail between her legs lol

When I first got her I always used to put her back on the lead until the dog had passed. I have since discovered that this has a negative effect on the dog. Now I just let her roam unless I see another dog on a lead, then I'll call her back and just hold her collar with one finger until I can ask if their dog is okay because mine will just want to play.

There are many dogs out there who's owners do not have a clue about how dogs behave. Even if they do scrap it's only for seconds anyway mostly.

I feel sorry for your dog, obviously had a tough time and you don't need to put up with such pillocks! :thumbsup

Not into dogs and I dont understand it when an owner drowns in a ice covered pond only to find the dog actually gets back on dry land all by itself.

i'd go in after my dog. even, perish the thought, rescue a cat.

Get 'The Dog Whisperer' around, mate. I swear that bloke must either be half dog, or he interferes with them off camera.
He's a bit edgy for me, I reckon he's bad for the dogs as a lot of the ones he "whispers" to are actually doing things out of fear of him. You should never ever do the alpha roll on a dog.
Now Victoria Stillwell, there's a trainer whose methods I agree with.

I loved dogs until……

My mate had come around for a meal and the odd drink or two. He conked out on the sofa and his dog curled up alongside him. OK no problem.

I retired to the bedroom and went on line to this board. After a couple of hours the net connection went dead. OK go and reset the WiFi modem which is, it was dead. Not only had the bloody dog pee’d on my brand new carpet it had done it in to the modem as well! Mark was rather violently awoken by me hitting him with the modem and emptying the liquid contents over his head! They are both welcome to call around, but no overnight stopovers ever again! Fitz William is a lovely dog but he’ll never be forgiven.

Three days of no Internet access! It’s totally unforgivable!

I love dogs but my 5yr old daughter is absolutely terrified of them even at distance she gets nervous. Walks in any open park are a nightmare.few owners keep there dogs under control. I never say anything but when i see how terrified she gets its always in my mind to say something.

If dogs are causing distress by being out of control you should report the matter to your local environmental health department. They SHOULD investigate and if they find it's true they may ban off lead dogs from the particular park. Round our way there are several which have this in place so it means that children can go into these places without fear, if I want my dog off lead I simply avoid those places and take him somewhere where it is allowed.

yeah good advice i prob should say something

If dogs are causing your daughter distress don't say anything to the owners (although most, like me, would not object)
Go to your local council and get them to sort it, that's why you pay your council tax mate. I'll bet you're not the only parent with the same problem. Maybe talk to other parent's and go to them as a collective, more pressure = better results.

Plus, you'll probably find the ones who are not prepared to get their dogs under control are the knuckle dragging type who will probably just give you a mouthful of abuse if you ask them to put the dog on a lead. I'm sure you don't want your little girl hearing that kind of stuff
